2 SC troopers involved in Columbia shootout
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say two state troopers shot and wounded a suspect after a chase around Columbia.
Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Sherri Iacobelli says a trooper stopped a car for speeding on Interstate 20 around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday and noticed the driver appeared to be intoxicated.
Iacobelli says the driver sped away while the officer was talking, and the trooper began to chase him. A second trooper joined the chase, which ended in the parking lot of a bank near downtown Columbia.
Authorities say the suspect got out of his car and fired at the troopers, who fired back, hitting him.
Officials have not released the man’s name or his condition.
The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting.
