Teen drowns in Lake Murray

CHAPIN, S.C. (AP) — A teen has drowned in Lake Murray near Chapin.

Richland County sheriff’s spokesman Curtis Wilson says the drowning occurred Sunday evening. Wilson says the death appears to be an accident.

Coroner Gary Watts says the victim was 18-year-old Christopher J. Riddle of Columbia.

Wilson says the teen was at a church outing. He says when the group got out of the water, they realized the victim was missing and called authorities.

The body was found by Richland County dive teams about 7:30 p.m.
