Backup G Roy has knee surgery
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina backup guard Tina Roy will be out indefinitely after surgery last week to repair the ACL in her right knee.
The school said Roy had a successful operation Aug. 15, but did not know when she might return to the lineup. Team spokeswoman Diana Koval said Roy hurt herself in a pick-up basketball game earlier this summer.
Roy played in 34 games last year and averaged 4.4 points per game. She was second on the team with 32 three-pointers.
Coach Dawn Staley says she’s disappointed to lose Roy, who she said worked hard during the offseason was expected to play a bigger role with the Gamecocks. Staley said she’s confident great things are ahead for Roy after her recovery.
