Travel expected to be up for Labor Day holiday

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – It looks like more people will be hitting the roads during the Labor Day holiday weekend, despite a sluggish economy and higher gas prices. AAA says 33 million people will travel more than 50 miles for the weekend, which is a 2.9 percent increase from people traveling last year. The organization also says this is the highest travel volume expected since 2008. The current national average price for regular gas sits at $3.72. In South Carolina, GasBuddy.com says $3.43. In Columbia, the average price is two cents higher at $3.45.
