New SC law students take on 17 service projects

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — New students at the University of South Carolina School of Law are taking part in a day of service at 17 sites across central portions of the state.
Faculty members and staff are set to join the students Friday for the fourth annual service project.
While students volunteer throughout the year with a number of organizations that deal with people’s legal needs, this project is designed to allow the 213 incoming students to use other skills.
Teams are painting residences, helping sort food and clothes, and doing landscaping for needy groups and individuals.
School officials say the event is designed to give new students a better appreciation of the needs in their local community and the organizations that work to meet those needs.
