SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)—Sumter Police says they arrested 41 year-old John Ambrose Westley after he admitted to shooting and killing Clifton James Singletary.

Authorities say he was taken into custody Monday on an unrelated warrant in the county.

Singletary, 45, was outside of a building on Warren Street on Dec. 15 before 8:15 p.m. when he was struck by gunfire. He later died at a Columbia hospital.

Officers believe the incident was due to a dispute between Westley and a friend of Singletary.

Westley is being held at the local detention center and is charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and unlawful carry of a weapon.
