Day 26 Murdaugh Trial: Pathologist back on the witness stand

Could there be two shooters?

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)— Could there be two shooters?

That’s a question jurors will now have to consider when they decide the fate of former low country attorney Alex Murdaugh.

That’s also part of what the state is working to debunk today with at least one of its witnesses.

The defense rested its case yesterday, but not before calling up two crime scene experts who contradicted some of the findings of SLED agents who testified for the state, with one suggesting two shooters involved in the killings of Maggie and Paul.

The state called Pathologist Dr. Ellen Riemer back to the stand this morning to explain why she believes the defense expert’s theory of a contact wound is incorrect when it comes to Paul’s fatal shot.

Court began today with some often times heated debate as we learned the state has seven possible reply witnesses to which the defense had plenty of opposition to in regards to timing and length of the trial.

Judge Newman ultimately decided the witnesses will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Ronnie Crosby was the first on the stand today.

Once both sides have presented their cases, we will hear closing arguments before the jury retires to deliberate.
