Woman arrested after puppies found in trash bag

Spartanburg officials say nine puppies were found in a trash bag in the woods last month.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)— Spartanburg officials say nine puppies were found in a trash bag in the woods last month.

Investigators say a tree service company found the tied black trash bag on Feb. 27 and noticed the bag was moving.

That’s when they found the nine puppies, three of which had already died, at just four weeks old.

Tara Johns was later arrested and charged with animal abandonment after admitting to the crime.

The six remaining puppies are now in the care of the tree service employees who volunteered to help.

Johns was taken to the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
