Spurrier On Thompson: “Hopefully He’ll Be Ready”

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — If USC quarterback Connor Shaw doesn’t start, sophomore Dylan Thompson will get the start under center Saturday as the Gamecocks host East Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium. Shaw is still nursing that bruised bone in his right throwing shoulder. USC head football coach Steve Spurrier said during Tuesday’s press conference that he should know by the latest Thursday whether or not Shaw will play Saturday. After Shaw left the Vanderbilt game in the first half, Thompson came in to play for the Gamecocks. He was sacked twice and was 0-for-3. Spurrier said coaches are working with Thompson to help build up his confidence, if he indeed has to fill in for the injured Shaw. The Gamecocks and Pirates take the field at 12:21pm Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium. The game will air on ABC Columbia with coverage beginning at noon.
