Obama/Biden Accept Party’s Nominations

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Democrats have wrapped up their national convention in Charlotte, N.C., after nominating President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden for second terms. Delegates chanted “Four more years” when Obama stepped to the podium, His address, seeking patience, setting new challenges and criticizing his rivals, concluded to strains of “Only in America” and the cheers of 15,000 in the hall. First Lady Michelle Obama and the couple’s daughters, Michelle and Sasha, joined the president on stage after the speech, followed by other family members and Vice President Joe Biden and his wife. Confetti then filled the air. Typically there is balloon drop, but there wasn’t enough time to place them in the arena because the acceptance speech had originally been planned outdoors at Bank of American Stadium due to weather. It turned out that there were heavy afternoon downpours. About 4,000 of those with tickets met at the Charlotte convention center where they watched big screens in meeting rooms.
