Thompson Impressive In First Career Start

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Head coach Steve Spurrier knew his backup quarterback, Dylan Thompson, had the potential to play well. Thompson got the chance to prove himself to Gamecock nation Saturday as he filled in for the injured Connor Shaw against ECU. Thompson impressive in his first career start, as he passed for 330 yards and three touchdowns in USC’s dominating 48-10 win over the Pirates. The Head Ball Coach said he was very pleased with Thompson’s performance, saying the young QB finally has some confidence with a start under his belt now. “Dylan was real good. Dylan was ready to play. He had a lot of confidence, guys were behind him. His confidence was the best I’ve ever seen it,” said Spurrier. “He was in command out there. He had a few bad plays hopefully he can learn from.” As for the Gamecocks starting QB Connor Shaw, he will be re-evaluated mid-week. Spurrier said there will be no quarterback controversy as Shaw is still USC’s starting quarterback. USC hosts UAB this weekend at Williams-Brice Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
