Woman With Gun Confronts SC Congressman

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP)– Spartanburg police say U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy was confronted by a woman with a gun at a church parking lot. Gowdy was able to drive away Sunday night and was not hurt. Police say Gowdy had been parked in a church parking lot shortly after 8 p.m. when a woman approached his car and pointed a gun at him. Spartanburg Public Safety Director A. Tony Fisher said at a news conference Monday that 52-year-old Gloria Yvonne Brackett had been charged with pointing a gun and illegally carrying a pistol. Gowdy represents the 4th District which includes Greenville, Spartanburg, Union and part of Laurens County. The Republican was first elected in 2010. More details are expected to be released late Monday morning.
