Spurrier Reiterates Stance On Fans

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Steve Spurrier isn’t backing off his stance that Gamecock football fans need to stay inside Williams-Brice Stadium longer. At Tuesday’s weekly press conference, when prompted by a reporter’s question, Spurrier reiterated his request that Gamecock fans stay through halftime. “Hopefully our fans will understand that if we’re going to be a big-time football program you don’t need to leave at halftime,” Spurrier said. During last week’s home opening 48-10 over East Carolina, the USC student section was noticeably empty after the Gamecocks took a 21-0 halftime lead. “Fans stay in the ballpark a little longer,” Spurrier said in Saturday’s postgame press conference. “That party out in the parking lot will wait, can’t it?” Spurrier added Tuesday, “If the most important thing is coming and drinking out in the parking lot, you don’t even need to come in to start with if you’re only going to stay a half I would think.”
