Legree Leads Way For USC Defense

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — The light has come on for USC cornerback Jimmy Legree. In his first season as a starting cornerback, the junior from Beaufort, S.C. has been the biggest surprise for the Gamecock defense. Through two games Legree has 12 total tackles (9 solo), one tackle for loss, three pass break-ups and returned his first career interception against East Carolina for his first career touchdown. “Right now I feel like a new person,” Legree said after Saturday’s 48-10 win over ECU. “I feel great. I’m having fun out there, love making plays, love celebrating with my teammates.” “Jimmy’s come around,” Steve Spurrier said at his weekly press conference Tuesday. “Sometimes in their first or second year some guys don’t much, or don’t look like they’re going to develop, and then all the sudden they do.” Legree attributes the turn around to a position switch. Last season he started the first two games at safety but didn’t see the field much after that. This year, Legree says he feels much more comfortable at his natural position of cornerback.
