CLEMSON, S.C. (WOLO) — Dabo Swinney’s offense will get a first-class upgrade this week. All-American Sammy Watkins returns to the field for Clemson this Saturday when the Tigers host Furman at 3 p.m. EST. Watkins served a two-game suspension for an offseason arrest. During those two games (wins over Auburn and Ball St.) the Clemson offense was plenty potent. Deandre Hopkins set a school record with 13 catches for 119 yards and one touchdown in the season-opening 26-19 over Auburn. Andre Ellington added a career-high 231 rushing yards. The Tigers backed that up with a first-half offensive explosion against Ball St. that put 45 points on the board at the break. “Yeah, you plug one of the best players in the country back on the field there’s a pretty good chance that good things can happen,” Dabo Swinney said at his weekly press conference Tuesday. As a freshman, Watkins set an ACC record with 82 catches for 1,219 yards and 12 TD catches. He was also voted to the Associated Press All-American first team as a kick returner.
