Charges filed in Charleston biker’s death
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A Charleston County man has been charged with improper lane use in a wreck that killed a doctor riding his bicycle on the James Island bridge this month.
Police have charged 44-year-old Gregory Rupley in the death of 54-year-old Dr. Mitchell Hollon, who was killed July 5 when he was hit by a van and thrown into a marsh.
Attorney David Aylor says Rupley has fully cooperated with police who have ruled out use of a cell phone or texting at the time of the accident. Aylor says his client is very saddened by the doctor’s death.
Rupley is scheduled to appear in municipal traffic court on Sept. 1.
