Auguste Could Return For Missouri Game

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Senior cornerback Akeem Auguste is recovering from a thigh injury quicker than expected, and could be back for the Gamecocks in next Saturday’s SEC home game against Missouri. Defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward gave an update on Auguste’s status after Thursday afternoon’s USC practice. Ward said Auguste, a preseason All-SEC selection, would not automatically return to the Gamecock starting lineup. Auguste’s replacement, junior Jimmy Legree, returned his first career interception for a touchdown against East Carolina last week and has recently drawn praise from the USC coaching staff. “I expect Akeem to be back really soon,” Ward said.” You could see him as early as next week. He‘s out running and feels good, so we expect to have him back real soon. (Athletics trainer) Clint (Haggard) has done a good job with him. We‘ll see if he‘s ready to play a little bit next week. Jimmy (Legree) is the starting cornerback now. Akeem knows that he‘ll have to earn the position when he comes back.” “Jimmy had a really good game last week,” Steve Spurrier said at his weekly press conference Tuesday. “Jimmy’s come around…sometimes the first or second year some guys don’t do much or don’t look like they’re going to develop and then all the sudden they do.”
