COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — The 6th ranked Gamecocks will travel to Lexington, Kentucky to play the Kentucky Wildcats this Saturday, September 29th at 7 p.m. on ESPN2. Here is a quick look at the week ahead and the match-up. South Carolina The Gamecocks are coming off a 31-10 win over the Missouri Tigers, giving them record of 4-0 (2-0 in the SEC). Connor Shaw is coming off a solid start, completing 20 straight passes for 249 yards and 2 touchdowns. USC currently ranks 41st in Passing Yards and 65th in Rushing Yards at 259.5 and 164.8 yards per game respectively; while ranking 32nd in Points For at 36.3 points per game according to ESPN. Which also has the defense ranked at 5th nationally for Points Against at 9.8 points a game. Kentucky The Wildcats are coming off a devastating 38-0 loss to Florida, giving them a current 1-3 record (0-1 in the SEC). Kentucky has loses to Louisville who is currently ranked 19th in the nation (AP poll), Western Kentucky in overtime, and this past weekend against Florida; with their sole win coming against Kent State. Last weekend against Florida, the Wildcats’ starting quarterback Maxwell Smith sat out with a shoulder injury and back-up Morgan Newton did not play well in his place throwing 3 interceptions with just 48 yards on 7 of 21 passing attempts. Smith’s status moving forward is currently unknown. The Wildcats currently rank 43rd in Passing Yards and 99th in Rushing Yards at 256.5 and 119.5 yards per game respectively; while ranking 94th in Points For at 23.0 points per game according to ESPN. Which also has the defense ranked at 84th nationally for Points Against at 9.8 points a game. Kentucky Head Football Coach Joker Phillips spoke to the media early today and we will try to bring you some coverage of that. South Carolina Head Football Coach Steve Spurrier is expected to meet with the media as usual on Tuesday around noon.
