Gamecock Milestones From The Georgia Game

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — The #3 South Carolina Gamecocks had a huge win 35-7 this past weekend against Georgia. The Gamecocks are now grabbing even more national attention as a contender for the national title and as a potential number one team. Let’s take a look back at the numbers from this weekend. USC is now ranked #3 in that nation following the win against former #5 UGA and losses by former #3 Florida State and former #4 LSU in the AP poll. This is the highest ranking since 1984, when that team reached second in the polls when they started the season 9-0. The win against the Bulldogs was Carolina’s tenth straight win dating back to last season, which is a a new school record. The 10 consecutive victories is also now the longest active win streak in the nation following TCU’s loss to Iowa State on Saturday. Alabama, Oregon, and West Virginia are all at a nine game streak. The win against the Dawgs was the Gamecocks’ third straight win was the first time in school history that USC beat UGA in three straight seasons. The 28 point victory margin against Georgia was also the teams largest victory over Georgia, the previous record was 17 points in this rivalry. The Gamecocks have now been ranked in the AP Top 10 for nine straight polls now, dating back to last season, extending the school record that was previously at 7 straight polls from the 1984 season. Marcus Lattimore had his 11th 100-yard game with his 109 yards and 1 touchdown on 24 carries. Connor Shaw threw for two touchdowns and 162 yards on just 6 completions while attempting only 10 passes. Bruce Ellington caught the first touchdown of the night, his only reception, on a 20-yard pass from Shaw. The touchdown was his first of the season, second career receiving TD, and his third total of his career.
