New Grant Program Gives Boost to Businesses Corridor

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) — The new business incentive launched by the Richland County Neighborhood Improvement Program (NIP) in March, 2012, to improve buildings and property along Decker Boulevard March, is coming to fruition. The Commercial Façade Improvement Grant Program (CFIGP) is designed to help local business and commercial property owners make improvements to their building façades. The program provideS up to $10,000 in grant funds to finance exterior renovations and repairs; eligible business projects include improvements to: doors, awnings, signs, windows, etc. Through the NIP Façade Grant, Richland County desires to help local businesses expand economic vitality and enhance overall business districts. Decker Boulevard is a pilot area for the Façade Improvement Grant; however the program plans to be applied to other target areas throughout Richland County. Eighteen applicants received façade improvements this year totaling more than $150,000.00. Businesses like Bi-Lo on Decker and Dino’s Restaurant say the monies allowed them to improve the look of their companies and they are already seeing a positive impact on their bottom line and their customers.
