COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “The energy was like outrageous,” says Lauren McAlexander, USC student. “I’ve been to a lot of games, but I’ve never been to a stadium that it was that loud before in my entire life,” says Michael Mieskey, Gamecock fan. There’s no doubt, after dominating the Georgia Bulldogs Saturday night, the South Carolina Gamecocks have thrown themselves into the national spotlight. Even turning up national title talks. “All the talks are definitely pumping them up,” says McAlexander. The Gamecocks now carry the longest winning streak in school history, with 10 straight wins. Saturday’s 35 to 7 victory over Georgia also earned the Gamecocks the #3 spot in both the AP and Coach’s Polls, the highest ranking since the Joe Morrison days of 1984. “It’s fantastic, how would you not be happy with that,” says Mieskey. Meanwhile, Georgia fell. “Georgia is now 14, that’s a huge drop,” says McAlexander. But the road ahead is going to be tough. “It looks like it could be a historic season, but there’s a lot riding on the next 2 weeks,” says Matt Meccaro, USC student. This weekend the team will travel to LSU, who is coming off a loss this past weekend. Gamecock fans know the frenzy in Williams Brice against Georgia could be reversed in Baton Rouge. “Every bit as we were fired up on Saturday night, that’s how it’s going to be in LSU,” says Meccaro. But fans say they’re ready. “We are definitely rallying behind them pushing them to their full potential,”says McAlexander.
