SC Supreme Court Allows 2 New Hospitals in Berkeley County
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina Supreme Court says two new hospitals can be built in Berkeley County.
The court late last week turned down an attempt by Trident Health to block plans by Roper St. Francis to build a 50-bed hospital in Berkeley County.
Trident already had plans to build a 50-bed hospital in the county.
The justices did not comment on why the turned down Trident’s attempt to block the second hospital.
Multiple media outlets reported that Roper claimed victory Monday.
Rope plans to build between Summerville and Goose Creek.
Trident planned to expand its clinic in Moncks Coroner to a full-service hospital.
Trident did not comment on the decision.
Berkeley County is attractive to both companies because of rapid housing and population growth.
