SEC spokesman Bloom to join South Carolina staff

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The Southeastern Conference’s chief spokesman Charles Bloom is joining South Carolina’s athletic department.

Gamecocks athletic director Ray Tanner said the SEC’s Charles Bloom will become the department’s Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs. Bloom has spent the past 17 years directing the SEC’s media and public relations efforts. Bloom was also the league’s chief administrator for baseball since 2000.

Tanner had been South Carolina’s baseball coach through July when he became athletic director.

The school announced the hire Wednesday.

Tanner said Bloom’s SEC experience will enhance South Carolina athletics.

Bloom is a 1985 South Carolina graduate. He’s also worked at LSU, Mississippi and East Carolina before joining the SEC.
