Deputies: Kingstree Woman Kills Own Son with Shotgun During Argument
KINGSTREE, S.C. (WCIV) — A 65-year-old Kingstree woman shot and killed her 30-year-old son on Saturday evening during an argument.
Now Phyllis E. Owens is charged with murder and being held at the Williamsburg County Detention Center.
Williamsburg County deputies say Owens shot her son, George Goethe Mixon III, in the chest with a 20-gauge shotgun. When officers arrived, they found Mixon lying in the living room of a Hemingway Highway home.
During the investigation, detectives learned there was an argument between Owens and Mixon that escalated until the fatal shooting. Deputies did not give details on the nature of the argument.
Mixon died on his way to a nearby hospital, officials said.
A date has not been set for Owens to appear in front of a circuit court judge for a bond hearing.
