SCarolina plans birthday celebration for Lattimore

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The University of South Carolina is holding a happy birthday and get well rally for injured running back Marcus Lattimore.

Lattimore suffered a serious knee injury in Saturday’s 38-35 win over Tennessee.

Monday is his 21st birthday and the school plans a 5 p.m. rally on campus at the Horseshoe.

Speakers include coach Steve Spurrier, team members, school president Harris Pastides and student body president Kenny Tracy.

Spurrier said Sunday that doctors had concluded that Lattimore had his right knee dislocated and sustained ligament damage. But Spurrier said Lattimore could return to football, perhaps in 2014.
