Frank Martin Previews LSU

COLUMBIA, S.C. — USC head coach Frank Martin didn’t waste any time expressing his views on his team’s upcoming week.

“We have an easy week,” Martin said jokingly.

Carolina faces LSU Wednesday night, then Kentucky Saturday. The Tigers and the Wildcats are currently #1 and tied for #2 respectively in the current SEC standings.

With a win over LSU Wednesday, the Gamecocks could take sole possession of first place in the conference standings.

“Obviously I know where we’re at,” said Martin. “I’m not going to tell you I don’t know we’re playing for sole possession of first place. There will be time for all of that, but right now it’s all about LSU.”

LSU presents an enormous challenge for Carolina Wednesday. The Tigers boast one of the best forwards in the country in Ben Simmons, 19 points and 12 rebounds per game.

Martin describes Simmons as a mix between NBA stars Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin.

Despite Carolina fighting for first place in the SEC, the Gamecocks fell out of the top 25 this week, after losing to Georgia Tuesday then beating #8 Texas A&M Saturday.
