SC Hacked: Recovery Efforts

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — In her third press briefing in three days, Governor Nikki Haley pointed out the progress being made in the hacking incident recovery process. As of Monday night, Haley says 533,000 people have called to enroll in the free one-year credit protection plan. 287-thousand folks have actually signed up. The wait time when you call to enroll has gone down from 12 to 10 minutes, with an average wait time of nine minutes to complete the registration process. When asked why shouldn’t the state be held responsible for this security breach, this is what the governor had to say: “The CIA has been hacked. The White House has been hacked. South Carolina DOR has been hacked. I think it’s just the world in which we live in and instead of whining and complaining about it, we’re going to fight and we’re going to make sure we take care of it.” To enroll in the complimentary one-year credit protection plan, call 1-866-578-5422 or go to http://www.protectmyid.com/scdor. The access code to begin the registration process is SCDOR123. You have until the end of January 2013 to enroll. More details tonight on ABC Columbia News at 6:00.
