Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)–  Columbia police say a five-year-old girl was found wandering in Gervais St. without a coat, socks, or shoes during Wednesday’s cold weather.

Investigators say she was in the company of John Toole of Kennesaw, Georgia who told police he was in town for a meeting.

The child was found by a man working in downtown Columbia.

Police say the girl’s mother notified and she flew from out-of-state to Columbia to reunite with her daughter.

Toole is charged with Unlawful Conduct Toward a Child.

Police say he was issued a $20,000 personal recognizance bond and ordered to not have any contact with the child or her mother.
