SC Man Sentenced to Life for Killing Former NFL Player’s Brother

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WOLO/ WCIV) – A Berkeley County jury has convicted a man for a 2009 murder. According to ABC 4, WCIV out of Charleston, the jury convicted Ron Santa McCray for killing Reginald Porcher in the Wando area of Berkeley County. This information is according to solicitor Scarlett Wilson. The murder was committed with a sawed off shotgun in front of several witnesses, and McCray faces life in prison according to a release sent Friday, to WCIV. WCIV reports, according to Wilson, the murder occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on September 16, 2009. Deputy Solicitor Bryan Alfaro said McCray held a grudge against Porcher and was after him for months. ABC 4 reports, several witnesses, including young children, saw McCray shooting Porcher as he tried to escape in his truck. McCray was identified early in the investigation and police apprehended him in James Island the day after the murder. Reginald Porcher was the brother of former Detroit Lions player of the NFL, Robert Porcher III. WCIV reports, according to Solicitor Wilson, Robert Porcher brought the courtroom to tears, following the verdict, by discussing the impact the murder had on the Porcher family. .
