Citizen Complaints Lands Cross Man in Jail on Drug Charges
CROSS, S.C. (WOLO) — A Cross man arrested last week on a drug-related charge was a direct response to community complaints of drug activity, officials say.
Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said several complaints had been made of suspected drug activity going on at a location just east of Eutawville.
“This is our response to the complaints, one arrested and several ounces of marijuana taken off the streets,” Ravenell said. “We’re going to continue to monitor this and other locations in the area.”
35-year-old Isiah Williams of 211 Mona Lane, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
Bond was set at $7,500 surety.
Residents called the OCSO saying that a business parking lot at Broken Arrow Road and Old Number Six Highway was believed to be an after-hours meeting location for drug sales.
On Wednesday, February 17, OCSO narcotics officers patrolling the area spotted a vehicle in the parking lot around 7:30 p.m.
Officers explained to the two occupants why they were there, and asked if they had any illegal drugs on them. One occupant admitted he did have marijuana in a center console.
Officers recovered two bags containing 121 grams of marijuana – or about four ounces – that can range in street value from $150 to $400 per ounce, depending on the quality.
