Man accused of attempted sexual exploitation of minor arrested
Lexington Co., SC ( WOLO) —- The Lexington Sheriff’s Department says the South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson will be prosecuting a case against a Maryland man accused of 6 counts of Attempted Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.
45 year old Lawrence Albert Threatt of Frederick Maryland is behind bars after the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force with the Mount Pleasant Police Department made the arrest. Officials say he solicited a person he thought was a minor for sex online. Authorities say during the web communication he encouraged them to make child sexual abuse material and according to authorities also sent sexually explicit images.
Threatt was taken into custody October 27, 2023 and charged with four counts of criminal solicitation of a minor which is a felony that carries a 10 year sentence per charge. He is also charged with one count of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor in the first degree, a felony punishable of up to 20 years in prison. He also faces one count of attempted dissemination of obscene material to a person under age eighteen.
During the time of his arrest authorities say Threatt was out on bond from a prior arrest on related charged in 2023.
