Forest Acres Police searching for man accused of commercial burglary, fled from officers

FOREST ACRES, S.C. (WOLO)– The search for a burglary suspect who escaped custody while in handcuffs in Forest Acres continues.

Police say 35-year-old Aaron Murphy jumped into the creek behind the Copper Library while still handcuffed on Tuesday afternoon.

“We continue to be out in force this morning searching for Murphy in the Eight Mile Creek area that extends from Trenholm Rd., to Gamewell to Willingham Dr. and beyond,” explained Chief Don Robinson.”

His last known location was off King Street in Columbia while wearing blue jeans, a white shirt, and a black jacket.

Investigators ask that if you see Murphy to not approach him but to call 911 or Crimestoppers.

“He’s being charged with stealing car batteries from an auto business. These are quick grabs for quick money and while concerning, they are not violent in nature. That being said, everyone should remain vigilant and call any tips into police immediately,” continued Chief Robinson.

FOREST ACRES, S.C. (WOLO)– The Forest Acres Police Department is searching for a man accused of a commercial burglary, said officials.

Investigators say Aaron Christopher Murphy got away from FAPD officers while handcuffed.

Officers believe Murphy jumped into the creek behind the Cooper Library to make the escape.

He was last seen wearing dark pants possibly blue jeans, a white T-shirt and a black jacket and is 5’9” and around 160 pounds.

Anyone who spots him is asked to not engage and to call 911 instead.

Murphy is believed to be in the Daniel Drive, Gamewell and Trenholm Road area.
