Lee County Sheriff: Man Called to Report He Shot His Wife
SUMTER, S.C. (AP) — A 66-year-old Rembert man has been charged with murder after calling sheriff’s deputies to tell them he had shot his wife.
Lee County Sheriff Daniel Simon told local media outlets that deputies found James Slater Jr. at his home. The man told deputies he had shot his wife.
Slater was arrested without incident and taken to the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center. He was charged with murder and denied bond.
Coroner Larry Logan confirmed that 60-year-old Brenda Ransom Slater died from a gunshot wound at the home.
Deputies reported a rifle apparently used in the shooting was found at the home.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether Slater had an attorney.
