KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) — Police say a Lugoff man was arrested after he attacked a 12-year-old boy who was allegedly bullying his niece.

38-year-old Sellmore Luckie was taken into custody after officials with the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office say he went to Lesile Stover Middle School on Tuesday, March 22 under the false pretense that he would be having breakfast with his niece, but instead grabbed the boy by the neck and threw him on a table.

Luckie is charged him with disturbing a school and second degree assault and battery.

“Under no circumstances is it proper for any adult to enter a school and assault a student regardless of whether a bullying situation took place or not,”said Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews. “If there was in fact a bullying situation, Mr. Luckie’s actions were not the way to address it.”

According to Sheriff Matthews, Kershaw County School District officials advised that the mother of a female student called the school and made arrangements for Luckie, the girl’s uncle, to come to the school to have breakfast with her.

Officials say a teacher on duty came to the aid of the male student.

Luckie was taken to the Kershaw County Detention Center.

He has been previously arrested for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature in 1996 and simple possession of marijuana in 2000.
