WalletHub study reveals elder abuse rank in SC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A recent WalletHub study says out of 50 states South Carolina is ranked 49th for elder abuse, gross neglect and exploitation complaints.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says people who abuse the elderly are typically those who are entrusted with their care.

Like a caregiver working in a facility or a family member.

Deputies say signs of abuse could be if a vulnerable adult is afraid to speak or if there are unexplained marks or bruises.
