SCDMV warns residents of scammers during holiday season

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)–With the holidays approaching, the Department of Motor Vehicles is warning people to be on the lookout for scam artists.

Officials say there have been reports in other states involving DMVs where victims are tricked into giving up personal information or even money.

The South Carolina DMV urges the following online safety tips:

  • Avoid clicking suspicious links, do not click on any links in text messages that claim to be from the DMV.
  • Use caution on any website asking for personal or financial information.
  • Report suspicious messages claiming to be from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
