SOUTH CAROLINA (WOLO) – The SC Department of Transportation says the I-20 Westbound bridge over the Wateree River has reopened over the weekend after being closed for emergency repairs last week.

On Saturday, SCDOT crews say they were working around the clock since Thursday, December 21, to make repairs to the bridge structure and reopened the bridge in just over 48 hours.

Secretary of Transportation Christy A. Hall, P.E. said she appreciate the hard work of our crews to expedite the repair work on this bridge and get it safely reopened for travel.

SCDOT traffic engineering employees, state and local law enforcement agencies, and State Highway Emergency Program responders helped monitor traffic conditions during the repair process.

According to SCDOT, the bridge was already programmed for rehabilitation along with the replacement and rehabilitation of two other bridge spans along this corridor. That project is still moving forward, and additional details about the construction timeline will be provided as they become available.
