Scam Looking to Target Medicare Recipients
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Medicare recipients are the target of another scam lurking around South Carolina. The Department of Consumer Affairs says a caller will ask for your social security or bank account number on an old Medicare card. It’s so you can receive a new one in January. Do not share that information. Officials have offered some other tips too: -Never give out your SSN, bank account number or other sensitive information to someone you do not know. -If you are suspicious about a caller, hang up and call a number that you know belongs to the organization/agency. -Always be skeptical of anyone calling you regarding Medicare, especially when they‘re asking for personal information. -Warn your family and friends about the scam
