COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “I’d probably have a heart attack,” says Gary King who purchased a lottery ticket Wednesday. “Umm that’s a good question,” says Bill Kemple, who purchased lottery tickets Wednesday. “Probably wouldn’t worry about bills anymore. I mean who knows what you would do with that much money,” says King. Midlands residents didn’t let the uncertainty about exactly what to do with $550 million stop them from buying their chance to claim it. “I don’t normallly play unless it’s above $200,000 – $300,000,” says Kemple. But, still Kemple is playing this time. In fact, he bought 30 tickets. “It beats not buying one,” says Kemple. But he doesn’t have a clue what he would do if he wins the jackpot. Crandal Sims reporting, “This sign advertising that they are the #1 Lottery seller in the Midlands has residents flocking to Jimmy’s Mart on Two Notch Rd to their ticket and a chance at possibly winning more than half a billion dollars.” Inside we found people lined up to get their tickets. “Because it’s a half a billion,” says Nancy Finch. Finch bought 60 tickets Wednesday of course we should mention it was a pool with co-workers. “It think we figured it was about 50 million each,” says Finch. And she does have an idea of how she would spend the winnings, if she won. “Oh I don’t know, pay off a bunch of bills, help my family and my co-workers,” says Finch. She isn’t the only one thinking of others if a win comes her way. “Take care of my family,” says Tasha Dixon, who purchased a ticket Wednesday. And after that Dixon has another plan. “Go on a long vacation probably 2-3 months,” says Dixon. She also knows where her winning ticket would take her. “Hawaii, might even move there,” says Dixon.
