Gainey Pulls Out Of Heritage With Back Injury
Tommy Gainey’s good run at the RBC Heritage ended early because of a back injury. Gainey withdrew from South Carolina’s only PGA Tour event in Hilton Head after 11 holes in the 2nd round. The Bishopville, S.C. native was -4 through 10 holes, two shots off the lead. He carded an 8 on #11.
Gainey addressed the situation on Twitter Friday afternoon. “How quickly things change! After hitting my 2nd shot on 10 I took a step that locked up my back causing pain and difficulty swinging. I tried to gut it out on 11 making quad and worked with trainers. I made the difficult and heartbreaking decision to call it quits. To go from 5th place to a WD is not what I wanted! Thank you to all the fans and I am extremely grateful to play at @RBC_Heritage!”
Gainey was playing at Harbour Town on a sponsors exemption. The big Gamecock fan has played most of the 2016 season on the Web.com Tour.
