Irmo officer injured after attempting to rescue man in apartment fire

According to the police department, Senior Corporal Christopher Kaderly entered an apartment on fire and attempted to rescue the person inside.

IRMO, S.C. (WOLO)– One person is dead and an Irmo police officer was injured after an apartment fire, said the Irmo Police Department.
The fire happened at the Irmo Village Apartment Complex on December 30, 2023, around 7:20 p.m.
According to the police department, Senior Corporal Christopher Kaderly entered an apartment on fire and attempted to rescue the person inside.
While helping the person out of the apartment the officer received injuries.
The person did not survive and Senior Corporal Kaderly was taken to Prisma Health Baptist Parkridge Hospital to be treated for injuries and then released, said IPD.
“Last night, we were reminded that police officers are relied upon to do so much in the community. Senior Corporal Christopher Kaderly showed just that when he quickly responded to an apartment fire in the Irmo Village Apartments,” said Chief of Police Bobby Dale.
Irmo Fire Department firefighters were able to contain the fire to one unit and extinguish the blaze.
The Irmo Police Department along with the Irmo Fire Department and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire and death.

impressive during the incident,” said Chief of Police Dale.
