Chapin police: Midlands man arrested after fleeing traffic stop

 

CHAPIN, S.C. (WOLO)– Police say a man was arrested in Chapin for drug possession after leading officers on a chase Thursday night, said the Chapin Police Department.

The chase happened on Thursday, December 28, 2023, after officers attempted to stop Malcom Lakeem Caughman’s vehicle for a minor equipment violation.

Officers said when they turned on their blue lights and sirens,  Caughman sped off and threw a book bag out the window of his vehicle.

Then officers chased after him and he lost control of his vehicle and fled on foot into the woods, said the police.

With the help of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Caughman was arrested.

Chapin police said narcotics were found in his vehicle and bag, including marijuana and crack cocaine.

He was charged with failure to stop for blue lights, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and taken to the Lexington County Detention Center.
