Watch: Unsolved Murder Leaves Lingering Questions 11 Years Later
Lexington County, S.C. (WOLO) — Questions linger eleven years later for the family of Diana Willmeth whose murder remains unsolved.
More than a decade hasn’t dulled Gerda Wilmeth’s desire to know what happened to her youngest daugther, Diana.
She says, “Parents shouldn’t bury their kids.”
According to Willmeth, Diana was last seen on May 6, 2005, leaving Lucky’s Bar on Edmund Highway.
“She didn’t answer her phone and I remember we went to her house. Her truck was there, her cell phone was there and her animals were not fed. We knew something was wrong,” explains Willmeth.
About two months later on July 7th, Diana’s body was discovered raped, beaten and fatally shot in a wooded area less than two miles from her home.
Eleven years later the mother is still looking for answers, saying “They’re still working on the case. They said they have a lot of bits and pieces.”
In a statement the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department says they’ve pursued every lead and tip they’ve received, but so far there hasn’t been enough evidence to arrest and charge anyone.
Willmeth tells ABC Columbia, “Somebody knows something. They might not think it’s important enough, but it just might be the link to put it all together.”
A link that could end Willmeth’s search which she says has become about more than getting justice for her daughter.
“There’s nothing I can do about Diana, but I hope I can stop them from doing it again,” explains Willmeth.
The family is offering a monetary reward for anyone who can provide information leading to an arrest.
