Coroner identifies Batesburg-Leesville man dead after vehicle accident

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the person who died in a vehicle accident in Lexington County, said the coroner’s office.

According to Coroner Fisher, Robert Lawrence Gillespie, 54, of Batesburg-Leesville was traveling northbound on North Edisto Road when he went off the left side of the road in a curve and hit a tree.

The collision happened in the Leesville area of Lexington County around 7:20 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6.

Gillespie was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead due to the injuries he received in the accident.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office continuing to investigate the incident.
