COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Church safety has become a top concern following the Charleston church shooting at Emanuel AME.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department Training Division will host a free training session geared specifically for church security teams.

The training session will take place Monday, May 9, from 6:00 p.m until 10:00 p.m. at the department’s training division headquarters located at 6429 Bishop Avenue.

Officials say this training will be a hands on approach on how to deal with disruptive visitors in the sanctuary and will reiterate the importance of being proactive when it comes to safety measures in church.

Those attending should dress comfortably.

For more information or to sign up, church security team leaders should call Lt. Curtis Wilson at 803-309-1624 or email Chaplain Paul St. John at pstjohn@rcsd.net.
