Man accused of hitting motorcyclist and fleeing while driving drunk

Christopher NazryCOLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Columbia Police Department has arrested a man accused of driving under the influence and hitting a motorcyclist over the weekend.

Christopher Nazry, 48, is charged with felony DUI and hit and run.

The incident happened Saturday just before 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of Fontaine and Wilkes Roads.

According to officers, preliminary information indicates that Nazry was traveling north in a Ford pick-up truck on Farrow Road when he struck the motorcycle driver who was traveling south on the same road.

Witnesses told CPD officers that they followed Nazry as he left the scene. Officers caught up with Nazry at a Maurice Street home.  While speaking with him, officers immediately noticed slurred speech and detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and person.

A trained traffic safety unit officer conducted several lawful field sobriety tests on Nazry before arresting him. Nazry was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries before he was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
