Williams, South Carolina top Manhattan 63-57
NEW YORK (AP) — Brenton Williams’ 17 points powered South Carolina to a 63-57 win over Manhattan in the second game of the Brooklyn Hoops Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Barclays Center.
Michael Carrera and Brian Richardson chipped in 13 and 12, respectively, for the Gamecocks.
With its third win in a row, South Carolina improved to 8-3. The win is also South Carolina’s sixth in eight all-time meetings with Manhattan. Manhattan has lost four of its last five games and is 3-7 this season.
Shane Richards, Donovan Kates and Rhamel Brown finished in double-figure scoring for the Jaspers with 18, 13 and 10 points, respectively. Richards hit 6 of 11 from 3-point range.
South Carolina outrebounded Manhattan 42-23.
