RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A Midlands corrections officer was arrested on Friday for misconduct in office and furnishing contraband to a prisoner, says the sheriff’s department.

Amara Brown is accused of knowingly and unlawfully committing misconduct in office while employed as a guard at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says Brown admitted on several occasions since March of 2023 she communicated with an inmate outside of work hours through phone calls on his contraband cell phone.

On August 8, 2023, Brown stated to deputies she ordered food through DoorDash and went out of her assigned area to deliver the food to the inmate’s pod.
The food was found by guards after a shakedown of the inmate’s cell.
Deputies say Brown failed to report that the inmate was using his phone and that she had frequent contact with the inmate, both in her official duties as a correctional officer and in her private life while still employed as a correctional officer.
The department says Brown will be processed and booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
