BERLIN -A gunman is dead after at least 50 special forces policemen stormed a German movie theater Thursday, said Peter Beuth, Germany’s minister of the interior.

German police had responded to reports of a gunman at a theater in the town of Viernheim, about 45 miles south of Frankfurt. Police said there was a “threat situation,” according to The Associated Press. The agency later said, citing German police, that no one was injured by the gunman.

German media have reported, however, that some individuals were injured in the incident, possibly from teargas police deployed when entering the theater. The incident started after 3 p.m. local time when a man armed with a gun entered the theater, according to German media reports.
