Fireflies Game Suspended Monday
HICKORY, NC – After steady rain started pouring down just after 9:30 p.m. at J.P. Frans Stadium, Columbia’s series opener against Hickory was suspended. The game was tied, 1-1, after five innings and will be completed on Tuesday at 5 p.m. The second game of the series will begin no sooner than 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Fireflies were trailing the Crawdads by a run when Joe Tuschak led off the fifth inning. His solo blast over the right-field wall tied the game up just as the rain started falling. Gaby Almonte then tossed a one-two-three bottom of the fifth inning before the umpires called for the tarp.
It was the second time Monday night’s game was interrupted by precipitation. Rain pushed the originally scheduled 7:00 p.m. start time back to 8:06 p.m. Almonte allowed just one run in the second frame and struck out five.
Listen to the completion of Monday’s contest starting at 5:00 p.m. on ColumbiaFireflies.com. The second game can be heard on WGCV 620 AM, 105.1 and 96.3 FM, the TuneIn Radio App and ColumbiaFireflies.com beginning at 7:00 p.m.
